About Us

The Queens Podcast Lab is a media education and research collaboration at Queens College in the City University of New York. Our goal is to create information products that help people understand and engage in Web 2.0 mass communicationscontent creation, and creative entrepreneurship. We interview academic experts and industry professionals, and run real-world media experiments, in a quest to understand how new media are changing our culture and society, and what skills, tasks, and best practices are involved in succeeding in these new media.

Podcast Scholarship

Our project includes researchers who conduct original research projects and interview experts from other institutions on topics related to podcasting and the broader field of digital content creation.

Educational Programming

We create original content to train students and interested members of the public about the skills, practices, and operational concerns facing digital content creators and content creation entrepreneurs.

Our Lab offers an internship program, which offers students for-credit and paid internship opportunities to get hands-on experience in media entrepreneurship, interact with industry professionals who can share their experience, and be part of a community that wants to create.

The Lab also operates a YouTube Live series that features discussions on a range of topics of interest to content creation entrepreneurs.  Members of the public who are interested in watching and chatting with our session can join us via our YouTube Live page.

The Lab also administers the QC Pod, a Queens College-focused pocast.

Creating Scholarly Podcasts

We create, curate, and promote non-commercial, freely-distributed scholarly-themed podcasts.

This fall, our group will start its sixth year of our flagship social science podcast, The Annex Sociology Podcastwhich had charted as a top 20 social science podcast in the United States in 2019, and won the Public Sociology Award from the American Sociological Association’s Section on Computing, Information Technology and Media Studies.

We will also be continuing the second year of  The QC Pod, an experiment in campus-based, community-focused podcasting at Queens College in the City University of New York
